Artist Statement: Evolution
In the ever-changing world, we as humans have made many discoveries in the name of progress. I often ponder how this progress may affect human nature and the world around us. I am curious about how the massive influx of technology and our growing dependency will shape cultures, as well as others that coexist with us. Evolution is a natural thing in life, to every species, and it is fascinating to think about how we as humans may potentially alter the process. Even so, with that evolution and change there is still a cycle of human nature, as history has repeated itself over and over again with the acts of violence and oppression.
Through a canvas or the printmaking process, I explore this idea of possible transmutations to humans and our environment as we evolve. I aim to create surreal environments where creatures have somehow integrated with humans and taken on their features or capabilities. I cannot help but question how our behavior and identities may change as we become apart of the appetites as the very thing we may have created. While these concepts may not always be realistic, they can prove to be a fun and playful puzzle in connecting the relationship between human progress, nature and the vast number of possibilities that lie ahead.
